Y’all, we need to talk about the coffee date for a minute. And no, I don’t mean that quick drive-through situation where you’re chugging lukewarm coffee in the school pickup line.

Listen – I know some days that’s all we can manage. But today? We’re talking about those intentional coffee moments. The ones where you actually sit down, maybe wear something that’s not athletic wear (unless that’s your vibe), and remind yourself that you’re a whole person outside of being somebody’s mama.

The Perfect Coffee Date Setup:

Your Vibe Check
Before we even get to what you’re drinking, let’s talk about your energy:

  • Throw on something that makes you feel like YOU
  • Maybe swipe on some lip gloss (or don’t, we ain’t judging)
  • Grab that cute bag you bought and never use because “what if the kids spill something on it?”
  • Put your phone on DND (unless you got kids at school – then just silence everybody else)

The Actual Coffee Date Situation

Look – if we’re doing this, let’s do it right:

  • Skip the basic drinks. This ain’t about caffeine, it’s about treating yourself
  • Try that fancy drink you’ve been eyeing but felt guilty about
  • Get the extra shot, the whip, ALL the toppings
  • And yes, get that overpriced pastry too. You deserve it.

Location Matters
Not all coffee spots hit the same. Look for:

  • Comfy seating (we too grown to be perched on weird art stools)
  • Good lighting (because if we looking cute, we need proper lighting)
  • Decent music (but not so loud you gotta yell)
  • Outlets (because your phone is definitely on 10%)

The Real Talk Part

Here’s what makes a coffee date actually worth your time:

  • It’s scheduled (none of that “we should grab coffee sometime” energy)
  • It’s longer than 15 minutes (you need time to get into the real conversations)
  • It’s with somebody who fills your cup (pun intended)
  • You’re not rushing to the next thing

When You’re on a Solo Coffee Date

Sometimes the best coffee date is with yourself:

  • Bring that book you’ve been trying to read for months
  • Journal if that’s your thing
  • People watch (we all do it)
  • Or just sit there and enjoy the fact that nobody is asking you for anything

The Don’t List

Few things to avoid:

  • Don’t schedule it right before something stressful
  • Don’t pick a spot where you’ll run into everybody and their mama
  • Don’t feel guilty about spending $7 on coffee
  • Don’t check your work emails (we see you)

For real though – a good coffee date can reset your whole mood. It’s not just about the caffeine (though let’s be honest, we need that too). It’s about taking a moment to remember that you’re still you, even under all them other titles you’re carrying.

So next time somebody says “let’s grab coffee,” make it count. Make it intentional. Make it something that fills more than just your coffee cup.

You’re overdue for a real coffee date! Let’s normalize taking these little moments for ourselves!
